Supervised by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, The International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) Regulations entered into force in 1968 and concern the international transport of dangerous goods along roads and highways laying down particular conditions as to the packaging and labelling requirements of the dangerous goods and the requirements of the vehicle that they are to be transported in.

The International Maritime Dangerous Goods Regulations supervise the transport of dangerous goods across seas, oceans and other bodies of water, stipulating packing, stowage and container traffic requirements, particularly with a view to separating substances that could pose a severe threat if they came into contact with each other.

International Air Traffic Authority Regulations specify what is classified as posing a dangerous risk to health, safety, property or the environment and the requirements as to their packing, loading, labelling, the required accompanying documents and what restrictions apply to dangerous goods that are being transported through the air.
