The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) governs the management of hazardous waste and specifies what is considered to be hazardous waste, how it is to be managed and the documentation that is required.

The RCRA Regulations require for the generator to prepare the waste for transport and ensure that any firms, with which they are contracted, are certified and that they perform bookkeeping and reporting.
